Bittersweet

Deanna took Hayden to a local kids hang out and met up with Andrea and Addison to play the morning away. This was a hard day for me because as much as I love that Hayden is cared for my his grandparents there are times that I miss him and wish I could be home more to share in more experiences. Fortunately I have been there when his "firsts" occur such as tooth, walking, smiling etc. Well I was at work and checking my emails as Deana will send me a couple of updates on Hayden daily to let me know fun things they have been doing, funny things he has done and just routine info such as nap times, menu items and diaper descriptions. I want to know as much as I can when he is away. Well about 2 weeks ago she took him to play with Addison at this local spot and sent me some photos from her phone ( they were poor quality so Andrea sent me some from her camera, Thanks!). It made me sad but happy at the same time. I was sad I wasn't experiencing this with him but so glad he had grandparents to take him to do things like this. Hayden had such a fun time that we have scheduled a play date with Addison to do the same again. This time I will get to see his joy first hand!

Another Milestone

Hayden has met another milestone and this one's not developmental (although he has reached some new one of these too after working with Aunt Jilly this weekend... two word phrases.) The milestone I am talking about is an ear infection. Yep the dreaded ears. I thought he was going to be spared the misery of these but last week he caught a cold I had. After 5 sleepless nights Jeff insisted I take him to the doctor. I was confident that he just had a cold; nothing time wouldn't cure. Well on Tuesday I obliged Jeff's request and off to the doctors we went to find that yes he had a virus but had developed a secondary ear infection. I felt TERRIBLE. Not only am I his mother but I am a PA and didn't even recognize that my poor child was in need of the great pink antibiotic. In my defense he never grabbed at his ears or ran a fever. He is feeling much better on has completed half of his treatment. He requests more antibiotic and gets a little disappointed when he doesn't get a second serving of the bubble gum treat. He in fact was feeling so well that Grammie and Peepaw kept him so I could celebrate my 31st birthday with my brother in laws who share the same birthday.

Resume Now reads ... Master of the Stairs

Well Hayden has another skill that he has mastered. Seems like by keeping track of all his accomplishments I am writing a baby Resume. He has been going up the stairs for a couple months now and over the last month has really become a master at riding the stairs down. He loves to go up and down the stairs as much as he loves to dance and ride escalators and play outside. Forget toys. He doesn't require any. Give him stairs regardless if they are stationery or moving he loves them and will say "wee" while riding the moving ones. At Southeast on SUnfday we had to sit in the 3rd balcony and Hayden loved riding up the series of escalators. He only lasted about 10 minutes in the santuary then when the music stopped playing we had to leave and head to the cry room on the first floor so I got to hear "wee" some more as we rode our way down.

Oh Ladder!

Well Aunt Jilly this is especially for you. Considering it's past your bedtime and you won't even see this til Wednesday I still felt the need to post because I knew you would anxiously be checking. And since multiple entries only count as one if they are done on the same day I decided to post just for you even though I really just feel like getting in my bed. Not much to report this week so far so your left with just this......

So this weekend Hayden has strung his first two words together. Brilliant child right. Well just wait til you hear what the two words are. Hayden and I went to visit my friend Monica who was in town visiting from Boston and Jeff was home putting in recessed lights in the family room. Well before we left Jeff wanted me to look at the suggested light placement and give my okay before he started cutting holes in the ceiling. He got his ladder and set it up. Hayden walks in and happily walks up to the ladder and says "Oh Shit!" Yep that's right. Now I was looking at Jeff and he at I and obviously we are both thinking that we didn't hear that right. Well Hayden quickly rectified that as he continued to excitedly repeat those words over and over. Apparently he thinks that is what a ladder is called. You see Paw Paw has been doing quite a bit of remodeling in his house so I can only imagine that this string of words has been uttered on several occasions and Hayden now thinks a ladder is not a ladder but is a profanity. Jeff has since asked his dad to watch his words and hopefully this goes away before more choice words are added to our son's vocabulary. No fast foward to today.......Hayden and I took Linus to the vet for doggy pink eye and while waiting to check out he gleefully says "Oh shit" to the lady at the counter. She smiles. I say nothing momentarily then pretend he was saying "shirt" instead and say "Yes Hayden, the lady has on a pretty shirt doesn't she" I don't think she bought that for a minute. We left and headed to Wendy's were Hayden enjoyed a kids meal of nuggets and mandarin oranges. We then went to walmart to pick up a few things then headed home for our nightly walk and then it was bath and off to bed. Before bed he was wanting to get a pretzel cracker out of the cabinet and was using all his might to try and reach them. Once I gave him one he was not interested. It was all about the challenge of getting.

Little Ones

Sunday was a great day spent with little ones. Ty and Erika brought over their 9 month old daughter Audrey. She is so cute and was really into testing out all of Hayden's toys. She was crawling around and very happy to explore her new surroundings. I know it hasn't been that long but it seems like a distant memory when Hayden was crawling around and chewing on everything. Hayden played well with Audrey and was gentle for the most part.
He would bring her toys to play with although they were his tools she didn't seem to mind chewing on a screwdriver as opposed to some "girly" toy. We got to spend a couple hours playing with Audrey before Kevin and Andrea arrived with their daughter Addison who is just a month younger than Hayden. She is always dressed so nice in her designer outfits (ok they may not actually be designer but they at least look designer) and stylish bows. I know she is going to be into fashion when she gets older. She's going to be telling me how 2000 my clothes and hair are and how I really should dress the part of the 2020's. She is so social and walking right up to people waving and saying "hi".
Hayden on the other hand takes a few minutes to warm up to his guests but then they are all playing well side by side in the playroom. It was nice to catch up with Andrea and Erika and Jeff enjoyed bonding with his brother and cousin over the xbox. Around 7 the little ones (most of whom had missed a nap) where yawning and rubbing eyes so everyone headed home for bed. It really was fun and hopefully we can do it again soon. We really should aim for once a month rotating the hostess. Next time Danielle and Jason will have to bring Kayla along. Hope everyone is feeling better.

Me and My Dad

Hi everyone! My mom normally types on this computer after I go to bed but today I decided I wanted to do it. I have gotten so big lately and want to help out a lot. Today I took my dad and mom their shoes so that they would take me outside. I LOVE it outside. Today I put my wet diaper in the trash and even put my plate in the dishwasher too. I was able to eat my dinner all by myself with a fork. Before dinner I helped my dad wash his BIG truck. I got to put my brush in the bucket with all the soapy water and scrub the parts of the truck I could reach. I was soaking wet by the time me and dad finished. I love spending time with my mom and dad. Mom and Aunt Peggy took me for a long walk today. Aunt Peggy brought me a baby chick for Easter. I was a little shy with Ant Peggy at first but then she asked if I wanted to go outside so I reached up my arms so she would take me out to play. Linus went on the hour long walk too. He likes it outside just as much as I do and he likes to pee on all the mailboxes and bark at all the dogs. I love dogs. They are so funny because they make all kinds of different sounds and you never know what they are going to do. My mom gets upset with Linus some. He doesn't pay attention to her but he will my Dad. One word from my Dad and Linus knows he means business. I want to be just like my Dad when I grow up. I watch everything he does. I see how he treats my mom so nice and he helps out with me and chores aroung the house. I'm going to grow up and be just like him. I already have started doing "man" things. He always shaves in the morning and fixes his hair. I found a shaver and shave my face now too! My mom and dad laughed so hard. I thought I had an electric razor but it was really one of those battery operated lint/fuzz ball removers. I put it up to my face and started shaving. It sounds just like my dads razor. I like to eat the same things my dad eats too. We went to BJ's to eat and we shared hot wings. They are one of my favorite foods. That and fruit.... same as my dad. Well, I better get to bed. Night everyone and maybe I can play on the computer again sometime soon.

The Great (or Not so Great) Outdoors

This afternoon we spent some time outdoors enjoying the nice unseasonal weather. Hayden and I went for a walk with the neighbor and her two kids then ran some errands to come home and find that Daddy had gotten home earlier than usual. We spent some time playing with a "new to us" motorized car that Hayden powers and we steer. He really seemed to like this. We then spent a few minutes sliding and swinging on our other neighbors swing set before putting some golf in the back yard. Then you would have thought we we torturing Hayden as we made our way inside for dinner. He threw a fit. I guess I am going to have to develop a love for the outdoors now that Hayden has discovered his. Daddy is excited about this. Me not so much. Don't get me working i like outside ... if it means at the pool or the beach or otherwise in 15 minute increments in 70 degree weather. Not a big fan of sweating in 80 degree humid Ky air with pollen and grass flying around while my eyes are red as bulls eyes and itching while being bit by every mosquito in a 50 mile radius. I'm serious those things love me. Guess I'll have to load up on Zyrtec and hose myself off with some Off so that I can help my Hayden quench his need for the great outdoors.

IKEA and Dog Pee

This weekend we went north to visit Keith and Emily. Jeff helped his brother with his basement that he is finishing and Emily, Hayden and myself went to IKEA. I have been wanting to go there since seeing how a lot of the shows on HGTV use furnishings from this store. I did find a few things that caught my eye and would like to go back with Jeff. Found a great picture for the basement and am still searching for a black sofa table for downstairs as well. The majority of IKEA is super contemporary and doesn't necessarily go along with the rest of the house. It was HUGE and neat to see. We had a nice time visiting with Keith and Emily. Hayden did great and I wish I could say the same for Linus. Needless to say this was his last trip anywhere that has dogs. He does great at my parents and as long as no other animals are around he is a good dog really. But my word he was AWFUL this weekend. Whining and crying the entire time except for when he was marking his territory. Yep that's right he was PEEING all over the basement. At least it wasn't finished yet and it was on concrete but still. No one wants a dog urinating all over their house. Talk about embarrassing and frustrating. Small streams of urine over 2x4, shopping bags, hammers, nails you name it he was marking the place up. They were super nice about it but man he was irritating me and he's my pet so I know how they must have really felt. At least we learned that we won't be taking him anywhere else. He didn't use to do this and actually has been to there house before. This is something that has happened in the last year. He doesn't do this at our house and now I know we certainly can NOT get another dog or else we'll be living in a litter box. On our way home just 3 miles before our exit a wreck involving a rolled over SUV shut down the interstate. It happened just ahead of us. We could see the police lights and were parked on the interstate for about 45 minutes. We were on "E" and managed to fill up after police redirected traffic to the shoulder. We were thankful to have made it home safe despite a grumpy Hayden and whining Linus. I pray that those involved were with only minor injuries as it looked pretty bad. Makes you really think about your mortality ..... how in a blink of any eye your whole world can change so a little dog pee really doesn't seem like quite the big deal it once seemed.

Taggies and Tee pee's

Well last week I participated for the first time in a consignment sale that occurs several times a year. Kids stuff consignment. I decided to try and sell a few things but primarily wanted to cosign in order to get in to preview night to have first dibs on all the god stuff. I got Hayden the majority of his summer wardrobe. (had already gotten some from Connor and Carson hand me downs which we always love) then I got a tee pee and a baseball cap which were a great hit. Hayden is just like Jeff when he was a toddler. Apparently Jeff always wore a baseball cap and Hayden took a liking to his bargain cap. Hayden loves going into the tee pee and playing hide-n-seek. A new favorite. I also got his Halloween costume for the fall (stay tuned to see what it is) and some curtains for the basement. So you can see all the things that i can rattle off... 31 items purchased for $137 but I only sold $18 worth of stuff. So that leaves me with less than the desired outcome where my old things were suppose to pay for the new things. Oh well I love consignments and yard sales and good bargains so this Saturday its on to the next consignment sale in J town but I won't be selling this time just buying.

Oh and this is the blanket mom made that Hayden has attached himself to. He sleeps with this and likes to play hide and seek with the blankie as well. I have been wanting him to get a "lovie" since he was about a year so I was excited when he finally found one although this wasn't the blanket I was trying to get him hooked on. My mom cut up her robe that had a moon on it and made it into a taggie blanket that is smaller but he didn't seem to take to it like this one with elephants. I remember when I was little having my favorite blankie only to have my mom cut it into many smaller pieces for me to carry around so I wasn't dragging a dirty blanket along the floor. Good thought but once she cut it up I was devastated and wanted nothing to do with it. Guess that's a good thing or else I might be carrying around a dirty blanket while seeing patients at work.

Balloons!

Hayden loves his balloon. We have gotten one each time he has gotten his hair cut. ALthough this one is from our unsucessful attempt to eat at Red Robin. It has kept him entertained for over 2 weeks now but finally got tossed only to be replaced by a purple one from Cousin Connor's 7th birthday (wow he is growing up so fast!) Then last Tuesday I took hayden to get his second hair cut at Kid Cuts. He clung to me again and whimpered and cried on and off but Kathy did a fantastic job and I'll be sure to ask for her the next time. He looks like such a little boy now and not a baby anymore. As a matter of fact he now has gotten his 6th tooth. Not sure if I already posted about it but you can see in the frist picture he is drooling like a water faucet. He loves to brush his teeth and show off the pearly whites. I'm waitng for the next set of uppers to come in then the lovely molars. Yeah can't wait... just kidding.
Update: during bath tonight- 3/11 I noticed he is getting his 7th tooth. this one is upper left and it is barely through the gum line.
