We have celebrated many birthdays over the past few weeks and Hayden loves birthday parties. He mostly loves the birthday cake. He has taken to singing the Happy Birthday song and asking for birthday cake on an almost daily basis. We went to Sarah Towery's surprise 30th birthday party and Hayden was so excited. He knew he was going to a birthday party and thus all day the conversation revolved around the CAKE. When Sarah arrived everyone sang happy birthday including Hayden and after she blew out the candles he clapped enthusiastically along with everyone else and was cheering "yeah" more so for the fact he knew what happens after everyone sings... the eating of the CAKE. Well at this party there was no cake to be eaten just yet, for everyone was socializing and dinner was served. We explained to Hayden that later we would have cake. He really wasn't happy with this situation but seemed content to know later he would indulge in a piece of cake. Well about 2 hours later everyone sang happy birthday again and Hayden cheered just as merrily as the first. When the cake was sliced and served we discovered it had nuts all through out the cake. Ugh oh! Hayden couldn't eat the cake You see Jeff is allergic to nuts and the pediatrician has recommended Hayden wait until 3 to consume any nut products. Devastation that is what he felt. Here he waited all day and now it is 9pm and he didn't understand nut language and allergies. He only knew we are "nuts" because now everyone was eating cake and he wasn't. I thought we would be in for a melt down but I had a few snack size chips an o'hoy cookies in our bag so he ate those and asked politely for cake. Jeff told him they could bake a cake tomorrow. Now comes tomorrow and Hayden and I head to "mammies" house (formerly "grammie" but Hayden doesn't say g's yet so mammie it is) She gave him a nice little boy haircut then we headed home. Jeff had kept his promise and made Hayden a cake. Hayden was able to ice it and then after eating dinner with our guests, Aunt Jilly and Uncle Travis, he finally got his cake. He wanted a candle to blow out and thinks that all cakes are for Peepaw's birthday (as this is the last one he remembers, before that all cakes were grandma Hamilton's). Today he finally ate the last piece of cake and was singing the happy birthday song on his way home from Dede's and pawpaw's house. That boy sure does love his cake and I don't think he will have another one until it's time for his real birthday cake in October. He should be a pro at blowing out the candles.

That is SO sad! I hate it when things like that happen. It's so hard to watch our kids get disappointed, especially when we aren't prepared for it either.
Joe and I have made so many "make up" promises too.
Hayden is getting so big, just as cute as ever!
We need to see pictures of your cute-self preggers! :) Hope you are feeling good.
Thanks again for having us over for dinner---it was delicious, and the cake was too! Hayden looks so old when you compare to those pics on the side of the blog. So cute!
I love Haydens new hair cute. He is such a cutie pie! Can you believe our babies are going to be two? Man time sure does fly! We need to get the cousins together real soon. We need to do a family vacation next year. It would be fun to get a huge family portrait with all the grandkids on the beach. I'm getting Addison all psyched up about her two new baby cousins.
