Sleeping, Smiling, Sick Baby

Well yesterday we made it to the doctors for our check up. Our little baby is no longer little (although he was born pretty big at 8 lbs 3 oz and 20 inches long). In 4 weeks time he has gained almost 2 1/2 pounds and weighs in at a whooping 10 pounds 14 oz and 22 inches long. He is in the 75th percentile across the board. I think he might tower over Hayden who has always been below the 50th percentile and at one time was 10% in weight. While at the doctor we discussed how we are having to hold Landon about 22 hours a day and how he cries non stop if he is not held. We are at wits end. Well it appears Landon has reason to cry, he has a large communicating hydrocele with a hernia and reflux (just like big brother did). We were given a prescription for prilosec and referred to a surgeon. I was told we could no longer co sleep for the risk of SIDS is greatest in the next 8 weeks. I don't like co sleeping but really it has been the only way to get sleep at this point. So last night we didn't co sleep. I stayed up until midnight with a fussy baby in my moby wrap bouncy around the house saying my continuous shhh's and finally gave in and put a pacifier in his mouth. I have been against this but at this point if it makes him happy then by all means he can go to town on a paci. Finally got him feed, changed and settled and then I headed to bed. Jeff took over with Landon waking up at 2:30 but got a diaper change and replacement of his cork a.k.a. paci and he slept until 4:15 when I traded places with Jeff and headed downstairs while he headed to the bed. I changed and feed him then he was back to sleep until 6:45 and he then was changed and feed then had some awake time and I got my first REAL smile! Yeah! I had gotten lots of dream and sleepy smiles but this was the first genuine smile. He had a great night which translates to everyone being happy. Now all this great sleep he had was in his swing but right now I consider any sleep that isn't on me or beside me a victory. Now if we can repeat this for another night and another and another. Is that asking too much? Maybe but maybe not.

Glad to hear a successful instant of a sleeping baby---gotta start somewhere! :) Hate to hear about the hernia and reflux-that doesn't sound fun at all. Hope to stop by and see you all very very soon!
