Little Helpers

Our Landscape project that has been ongoing for the past 3 years has finally come to completion with finishing off some lava rock in front of the retaining walls. Hayden is a mini version of Jeff and since he was Landon's age he has been right by daddy's side being his helper or at least trying to help although at times creates more work. He has used power tools, lawn tools, built retaining walls, planted plants, built shelves, painted, cut the grass, hammered a nail.... you get the idea. Well now Landon has reached the age of being a "helper" as well. It is interesting seeing them all work together and how Hayden and Landon definitely have very different and distinct personalities. Hayden is my more timid, think it out before acting child. Very sensitive to others feelings and cautious if not fearful. A tiny scrape can send him into hysterics and if there is blood involved no matter how little it is catastrophic. Ok... maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. Landon is my act before thinking, adventurous, brush yourself off and try again child. Fall down, bang yourself up, bleeding wound won't deter this one from brushing his self off and trying harder. Neither is better or worse qualities just very different from one another and both get frustrated easy. On this particular day Jeff found some worms as he was digging in the soil and offered one to Hayden who very adamantly refused to hold it and wanted nothing to do with the slimy critter whereas Landon thrust his pudgy hand forward and couldn't hold the worm fast enough. After Hayden had time time to think about it and see that Landon was not harmed by this little worm he offered up his palm and held the worm for a few seconds before deciding he 'could' hold the worm but would rather not and so the worm was placed gently back onto the soil. When Landon was finished the poor worm was squished and tossed onto the ground. How I love my boys and how they are different as can be. And after many a summer my landscaping looks great! Thanks to Jeff and his little "helpers" who instead of speeding things up may have slowed him down but he didn't seem to mind.

They sure are a handsome pair. I can't get over how fast they have grown. I remember holding them in my arms and now not so much. It is fun seeing the two of them playing so sweetly together. Can't wait for the new addition I'm sure s(he) will fit right in.
