Hayden has done remarkable taking on the role of big brother.Just tonight when I was getting him ready for bed I told him to go give daddy a hug and kiss and tell him goodnight. He did as I asked and the did the same to Landon without any instruction to do so. Every night when he gets home he comes in and asks 'where's baby' and gives him a kiss and a pat (or a pet as he calls it). Earlier tonight Landon was in his swing as my arms were tired from holding him all day (he cries a lot) so I put him in his swing and he was crying. Hayden went over to the swing and was rubbing on him saying 'shh shh shh shh it's okay' when this failed he raised his voice and said ' be quite'. If only any of these techniques could comfort the baby. I again am typing one handed as I hold a baby who is sound asleep but as soon as I try to put him in the pack in play, swing, vibrating chair, bed, or any other surface he is no longer peacefully sleeping but instead red faced and screaming until he is picked back up. I don't remember Hayden crying this much when we weren't holding him. I am trying to enjoy my sweet baby as I know this time won't last forever but right now I feel like I will have a baby in my arms forever. For now I stay in the basement with the baby until 1 am and Jeff sleeps then he takes over until 4 am while I sleep then at 4 we all co sleep until 7. or should I say they sleep as it is hard to really sleep with a baby on my chest but at least I do nod off a time or two and get to close my eyes. Hayden slept much better starting out in his crib after we held him non stop the first 2 days then we both looked at each other (me and Jeff) and said we can't hold him like this indefinitely so he went to his crib and would cry for just a few minutes and then sleep 3 hours at a time to wake up only for a feeding. Landon will just cry and cry until we pick him up and then no one gets any sleep. During the day its more of the same. Can't sit him down for any length of time although some days he does nap in his swing and he did sleep in his crib for some naps the first few weeks but that is a thing of the past. I really don't want to wish this time away but I will enjoy when he needs me a little less. In the meantime I have invested in a sling and am wearing him to give my arms a break.

Have you tried a sling? I bought the Moby wrap and Maddie loves it. She falls right to sleep in it and it allows my hands to be free. I can even go to the bathroom or do squats with it on! It's very cool.
I hope this phase subsides quickly for you though - it's frustrating to deal with a crying baby, but I can't imagine having a 2 year old on top of it!
Hayden talking to Landon that way is so funny!!
I'm sorry you aren't getting any sleep, that will make you go insane. I know, Joseph was that way.
Do you think Landon has acid reflux? I don't think Joseph did, we tried medicine but it didn't seem to help. One thing that would work some times was having him sleep in his car-seat. I thing the sit up position and the way it cradled him helped. He slept like that for months. Praying for you, I know how difficult it can be. Just know that it will get better. {It may be months} I was afraid Joseph was going to be the most demanding toddler but he is the easiest/compliant child now. He just needed lots of comforting and reassuring, and still is very dependent.
You can do it, and you are right, it will be over soon.
miranda we went to the dr today for check up and he has hernia and they think reflux so we will try medicine and have appt to see a surgeon. thanks for the prayers as we can definatley use them. i am at my wits end. hayden had same reflux and hernias and i didnt think the meds helped him either but at this point i am willing to try anoything. i am also going to get some gripe water. Melissa I actaully bought a moby wrap and have been frustrated with it as I can't really get him situated in it good. i have managed to get him in there good enough one afew occasions and he has calmed down and i can have my hands free for a while. does it hurt your back. mine really causes mid back strain but when i use it i am willing to trade some crying in for the back pain. glad to read maddie is on schedule and doing well. mom said she is really cute. i didn't think i was brave enoough to go to the country with 2 kids and no husband as he went to uk ul game. im sure everyone loved seeing maddie. I bet you look great if you are doing squats with your baby. i have no energy for that.
The Moby wrap causes me less back pain that the other sling I was using - the other was an Evenflo brand that just goes over one shoulder. I hope things go well at the surgeon's appointment!
